Guide to Addons

AddOns are one of the most important features of World of Warcraft, and can seriously help you out when raiding, dungeoneering, or just selling some items on the auction house. In this article, we’ll go over some of the important (nearly required) addons for raiding, as well as how to install them. Keep in mind, there are thousands of AddOns, so we’ll probably miss a few. Feel free to let us know some of your favorite AddOns in the comments, and we’ll add them!

Installing Addons

Installing AddOns is pretty easy, you just download the folder and place them in your World of Wacraft > Interface > AddOns folder. However, we’re lazy, so we want to use the Twitch application to install them for us.

  1. Download the Twitch desktop application
  2. Open it, and navigate to Mods
  3. Click on World of Warcraft
  4. Click the “Get More AddOns” tab, and you’ll be able to search and install AddOns

For some AddOns, they still have to be manually installed. The easiest way to do this is to just search for the AddOns folder, and throw the folders in there.

Important Addons

These are AddOns that pretty much everybody should have, mostly for raiding. We’ll give a light description of each AddOn, so you can make your own decision whether or not to install it.

Deadly Boss Mods (DBM)

This is the most installed AddOn in World of Warcraft, and is a massive help in any raiding situation. It’ll pop up reminders to do mechanics, and give you tools for boss encounters.

Even veteran players will zone out sometimes and stand in the red goo. This addon will help remind you if you’re standing in something, or even if one of your teammates is trying to kill you with a bomb.

This AddOn helps block and report spam. Honestly, I installed it and just let it do it’s job. It’s pretty great so far, I haven’t seen any goldsellers.

Skada Damage Meter

You need a damage meter to help improve your gameplay, even if you’re a casual player. There are many on the market, feel free to use Recount or Details.

Angry Assignments

If you’re in a raiding guild, you guys definitely need Angry Assignments! It takes the confusion out of assigning interrupt rotations, and you can even write reminders as a raid leader to send to everybody.

WeakAuras 2

Becoming a WeakAuras master will give you an edge on everybody else, and really help you out for certain boss mechanics or even on your DPS rotations. You can completely customize it, and throw big icons up on your screen for when you have a short cooldown or proc up.

Helpful Addons

These are AddOns that might help you out along the road, and you should definitely take a look at them.

Gear superiority isn’t determined only by iLvL. If you’ve ever looked at two separate pieces trying to figure out which one is better, get this addon. It’ll run simulations and do all of the guesswork for you.

Raider.IO Mythic Plus

If you pug a lot of Mythic+ keystones, you should look at the Mythic+ score of the people attempting to join your group. This will help you make better decisions on bringing in pugs.

MaxDPS Rotation Helper

DPS is pretty hard for many players, having an AddOn like this will highlight the important buttons to press so that you don’t forget about them.

Advanced Addons

These are AddOns that enhance your World of Warcraft experience, but require some additional setup. We might write seperate articles for these, but just know that they exist.

This is my favorite addon, and I honestly couldn’t play without it. It is a massive UI overhaul, and brings in tons of features to completely change your game.

You have to manually install it.

This is another popular UI addon, and replaces your actionbars to make them customizable.

If you like making gold, this is the AddOn to do it. Sadly, this AddOn is somewhat of a beast to setup, so we’ll write an article on it.
